Stormy 2014. Days when, leaving home for a rally, you didn’t know if you would return. Days that became the point of no return. Days when everyone was fed up. The creation of an independent media outlet was a breath of fresh air for its readers and creators.
Times, narratives, and accents changed, but we kept our focus on the main thing: there is a war in the country and it requires clear articulation.
We are a radio network for anyone who wants to learn more about the Kharkiv region. On the air, Radio “Nakipilo” features local news, reports from the region (including from de-occupied territories), and interviews with military personnel, volunteers, public figures, and artists; journalistic investigations into the occupiers’ war crimes in the Kharkiv region; debunking enemy disinformation and analyzing information and psychological special operations; discussions on rehabilitation options for military personnel after injury; stories of women in the military and volunteering; updates on programs for the reconstruction of the Kharkiv region following devastating enemy shelling; conversations about fostering a culture of remembrance, practices for honoring the fallen, and memorializing the Russian-Ukrainian war; practical advice from a psychotherapist; discussions about humor and music; readings of Ukrainian literature; reflections on the past, present, and future of our region, analysis, and the search for solutions.
We are the “Nakipilo” Center for Practical Education
We teach media professionals the tools of constructive, modern, independent journalism.
In 2014, the “Nakipilo” media group was formed in Kharkiv in response to a lack of reliable sources of information.
And as early as 2015, Nakipilo members began conducting media literacy trainings for citizen journalists in the east—and that is how our educational initiative began.
